Got my new apuanus juvies from Jenn yesterday, and spent all night trying to get my camera to focus on the little guys. This is what came out:

This one's really pale, for some reason (though not that orange, that's just the light in the room):

And here's Margaret (paramesotriton hongkongensis, I belive), peeking out of the one and only plastic plant that I have, which she LOVES, for some reason:

lovely photos, thanks for sharing!

Apuanus are really interesting species. What do you feed them?

They haven't actually eaten yet (I'll try again tonight), so I'll have to see what they like.

(Jenn said they've been eating a pretty good variety of stuff - frozen beefheart, blackworms, pellets, chopped earthworms, etc).

Sounds good! Please let us know how it's going, and if they've eaten

They're eating just fine (yay!) - I've fed them twice now, chopped earthworm bits. They're ravenous little buggers, just like my pleurodeles.

Glad to hear it! Despite their small size, they have incredible appetites

Darn right lucky him!

Those are some great pics/newts. Can you post a pic of the whole tank?

Nice, I have been raising some from egg's I got from Jenn and they are growing up fast.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

sorry I am having a hard time trying to upload the pictures- I have them saved on my hard drive... any suggestions-the prompts here are not allowing for downloads that way as far as I can tell. Thanks
