ok i know your not really suppose to hold a newt but i got him about 2-3 days ago so im a little excitided. When i hold him he gets sticky so i put him back. i noticed he shedded a little when i put him back. so is it ok to hold him awhile.

thanks

No, it's not ok. The fact that it is drying out when you hold it should be proof enough.

Think about what you said: he gets sticky, so he's probably secreting extra mucus to make up for the distress you're causing to his skin, and next you say he's shedding, which means his skin is coming off. Both of those things should tell you that picking him up is NOT GOOD for him.

Also, this topic was recently addressed. You can do a search on subjects before you post.

well i am not the most expert on newts

please read some of the caresheets in the links posted right above yours. you should really do some reading up on how to properly care for your little guy before he simply dies due to improper care.

a few days after i got my 1st iberian newt, i put my hand in the tank and put him on my hand, i did kind of hold him but he wasnt out of water, is this ok:happy:

A little bit of handling with a wet and clean hand is OK. Use common sense and understand why it's not good, and bad effects can be minimized.
