The Hamburg, Pa. reptile show is October, 21, 2006

I'll have 4 display tanks set up. I'll have a 10 gallon tank of Neurergus strauchii strauchii, Mesotriton alpestris apuanas, Triturus dobrogicus, and probably Pleurodeles waltl. Their are always lots of newts and salamanders at this show. It seems like fire salamander imports are hitting the market again. Their should also be some c.b. (pond raised) tiger salamanders their.

umm would anyone know how long it would take to drive to hamburg from hamilton ontario ?

According to Mapquest the trip from Hamilton, ON to Hamburg, PA is just over 7 hours. Of course that is mapquest so that should be taken with a grain of salt. It's about 440 miles. You should consider online resources like this.

Minnesota is just a horrible, horrible area for anything herpetological. We had one small convention here last year, but everything else is on the east coast. Even the Midwest symposium is far, far away. A poor college student just can't afford that kind of trip.

Their are lots of reptile shows in Pa. and Md. Mostly they are snake and lizard shows but their is a slowly increasing contingency of amphibian enthusiasts represented at these shows. As far as I can tell the Hamburg, Pa. shows are the largest reptile and amphibian shows on the East Coast without going to Florida. Hamburg is about 45 minutes from my home.

There are indeed a lot of shows in PA but have to say I am disappointed in the variety. The one in Valley Forge in Sept was really a nice show for snakes, lizards and dendrobates but there was not a single caudate to be found. I was all set up and ready to adopt a few Granulosa's and poof, nothing. Did buy a bunch of wood at black jungle though.

The Valley Forge show was a first time for the organizer at that location. I'm guessing it's the last time too. It wasn't what I expected either. I got some supplies their and visited with some friends so it was worth the trip.

The Hamburg show was crazy yesterday. I saw a Colorado river toad for sale that impressed me. Their were lots of frogs and toads for sale. With salamanders I saw Taracha granulosa, and Tylototriton kweichowensis at other tables. I offered 6 types of c.b. salamanders and 2 types of w.c. salamanders at my tables. I got to see several caudata.org members at the show and spend a short time with them. It got hectic for a little. Shows are always fun for me because I get to visit old friends and meet people. Their are always lots of interesting animals and people at the Hamburg show. Of course sometime I'd like to go to the big Hamburg show in Germany. For now I have to be content with Hamburg, Pa.
The next one is the first Saturday in December.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
