Grey orientalis

Here's some photos of a grey orientalis that was sent to me by a woman in Texas about a year ago. This individual is grey 99% of the time regardless of temperatures, mating condition, food, etc. Anyway, I think she's got a very cool look, especially with the orange she keeps on her dorsal tail fin, and I'd be interested in acquring a few more just like her.

So that's what a grey orientalis looks like.... mine is grey occasionally, think it's due to the high temp.

Looks quite like mine except the toes on the back leg are slightly longer in mine. So maybe it could be grey too? Btw, what are those white speckles on the back and the tail? I used to think that it was a fungus attack on my newts.

Samuel, this dorso lateral white speckles are typical for orientalis. By this indiviual it is only very good to see. This female is not grey the whole year. Sometimes it looks nearly each black as the others.
Longer toes? Perhaps yours is a male.
Nate, the orange parts on the tail are very interesting.

Here an other pic of this female:

And here a courting pic of the same female taken in spring. You see, on this photo it isn't so grey.

Thanks for the photos Paul. Maybe one day we'll know exactly why they turn grey eh? I know when I see them in petshops with Bombina toads, and water temps of 27°C or so, the majority are very grey. So temperature must be one cause, but not the only trigger

Nice pics folks. One of my female Cynops Orientalis' is grey with spots.

I have one that's even greyer than this one.
