gravel too big ?? help!

Without a size reference I have no idea how big those pebbles are. The rule for gravel for an axolotl is that it should be larger than their head or sand size. Axolotl's tend to gulp their food and could quite easily ingest pebbles if they are smaller than their head. If they eat the pebble it can block them up. Sand will pass through them so it doesn't cause a problem

I know this stuff.
Way to small. Either large pebbles, sand or bare floor.
Those stones will be ingested by your axolotl and cause serious problems.

thanks i havent got the crature yet so i will change the gravel to something bigger!

Most people tend to go for sand with a few larger pebbles, or bare bottom.
The reason being it is far easier to keep clean. If you have to many large stones the gunk gets caught underneath and pollute the water.
Those who favour lots of large stones have to maintain a regular regime of moving and cleaning underneath.
Not trying to put you off but just thought i would tell you as a word of caution.

Yes Frances is right, those are polished river stones. I had them myself at the beginning. I soon threw them out when I realised my axolotls had got to a size where they could swallow them.
