I got another salamander today! I'm very excited. I was hoping for a female this time, but he seems to be a very outgoing little male; not shy at all. He's very small and was given to me by my mother in laws friend.
He prefers to eat in the water, and by his small stature, I'm assuming he is a recent morph.
Currently he's in quarantine. I have him in a 10g tank with a tupperware dish of water and a dish of substrate. He has a tunnel to hide in (added after the photos were taken) and there is a cover for the top. The bottom is covered in moist paper towel. I will change to all substrate in 1-2 weeks, if his waste seems normal.
He'll be living in the 10g for 60 days. Then I will introduce him to the big enclosure with my other ambystoma marvortium melanostictum.
The two salamanders are in different rooms and I wash my hands very well before and after any interaction with them, their enclosures or their food. I am not wanting to spread any potential illness.
This is my first time handling a QT, so I hope I'm doing alright. Just wanted to share my excitement with you all, and if anyone has some input or advice on the process, I'd like to see it. I have asked people online already, but I know there are experts here who will know if I'm missing anything. Thanks!
*the small case with substrate was a travel bin to get him home
