NEVER PUT NEWTS WITH GOLDFISH!expecially if the fish is bigger than the newt
In the wild you never find newts with fish.
}}

The fish will be smaller than the newt but too big for the newt to eat. Are there any fish that can be kept with newts?

Cheers S

White Cloud Minnows and Zebra Danios should do alright, as well as Ghost Shrimp, but you don't need them in the tanks with the newt...it would only be for aesthetics.

It is only a temporary measure. They would only be together for a month or two. Would a well fed newt still try to eat the fish?

With goldfish, eating each other is not the biggest problem. The problem is water quality. Goldfish excrete a lot of waste (ammonia). Be sure to test ammonia and do a partial water change at least every week. Be extremely careful not to leave any uneaten food in the tank. Even with these precautions, it's still a risk for the newt.

In my experience a newt can manage to eat a fish only if the fish passes in front of his mouth.Normally fish are too quick for the newt to catch.However I think the fish would stress the newts.You can try,perhaps they'll get on well together...

I think I'll give it a go. I'll test the water daily and step up the water changes. I'll keep an eye on the situation and seperate them if any problems occur.

one question: what is the water temp in the tank? gold fish need warmer water temps than newts.... frankly, i think you're playing with fire (excuse the pun). you're only asking for trouble

    Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
