Going to get my first ever axolotl!

Hello!

I was recently gifted a 20 gallon long aquarium with full set up - and I'm so excited to get an axolotl. I've wanted one for years. I've been researching and reading all the posts here. I have my tank cycling and am checking the water.

My concern is actually acquiring the axolotl. We have pet stores here and I'm not keen on buying my pets. We do have one locally owned reptile store that I know has had axolotls in the past, but I haven't checked recently.

If they don't, do any of you have suggestions for reputable online sources? I'm really nervous to have a live animal shipped to me.

Any info would be great!

I can personally recommend Bette (that is her user name - you can pm her). I have gotten both eggs and axolotls from her. She does a great job packing and shipping them. I know she has a lot of juveniles that have recently reached a shippable size.

Also, check the "for sale" forum. There are many reputable sellers that post there. Maybe you can find someone close to you so you could pick one up.

Yes, I second the suggestion to check the breeders on the site. I've never seen a petshop axolotl that was kept in appropriate conditions, and most of them looked very sickly.
