Hehe sorry im a little excited :) Just noticed that my axie Godric is laying eggs all over the plants in my tank, yey. I've starting researching how to deal with this obv, I was just looking for a little advice from people who have dealt with eggs.

I have 3 axies in one tank, 2 boys and a girl, im assuming once shes done its ok to move the plants & eggs to a smaller tank and leave the 3 axies in as normal? And they take around 2-3 weeks to hatch? Guess i'll have more questions if/when this happens heh

Also best kind of food for when they do hatch? I read about microworms and brine shrimp, are the both as good as each other? And does anyone know anywhere I can order them from online in the UK? Im not sure the aquarium near me gets them in easily

Sorry i know this is probably all in other places on the forum, but as its my first lot of eggs I wanted to ask just so I could get all the info in one place

Thanks :) Pen x

More research this morning...

I havent moved the eggs yet, I was going to just take the plants out an put them in my old tank but ive read about putting them in containers instead? Is that just because people have bought eggs? Or is it just easier to do it in a small container to start wit?

Thanks

Hi and congrats on your eggs, I moved all the ones I could out and they are now in one of those plastic fish bowl's, once they have started to hatch I do have lots of little containers I will move them into rather than leave them all in the bowl.

Its easier to have them in smaller containers as you will have to catch the ones that hatch to put into containers so that you can start feeding them. Its also much easier for clean up to use the smaller containers as you will have to do frequent large water changes. Also, its important for aeration to have them in a shallower container rather than a larger tank. Most of the care guides I've read recommend aerating occassionally with a gentle airstone or partial water changes for improved gas exchange, but a shallow container will also help with that.

Congratulations with the eggs. I have my first batch of young axies growing over here. When my female axie laid them I took them all (!) out. I think it was about 300 pieces. Now about 60 survived. (Well, yesterday one axie just ate his (probably) handicapped sibling, lol)

I also had one female and two male axies in a tank. After the eggs were there (and replaced in a small container) I left the adult axies in their tanks. I didn't do anything else. They just continued living their axie lives in there.

I keep them in small plastic 'shoebox' like tanks (they call it 'faunabox boxes' over here) with a little airstone. I feed them baby brines. I haven't fed them anything else yet, but I would try to feed them larger things now, or daphnia, because some of them have grown pretty fast :)

I guess it took about 20 days for mine to hatch. I didn't do anything to the water temperature to make them hatch faster. I just kept everything 'normal'.

I also separated the bigger axie babies from the smaller ones so that the smaller ones won't end up as a snack.

Good luck!

Thanks guys :)

The eggs are all still pretty attached to the plants, so ive put them in a hatchery for the time being, i didnt really want to/know how to carefully remove them to put them into a smaller container

Ive also still got the boys and girls separate, I was wondering about anyone elses opinion on this? I know Morrison said they just put em all back together, but other places have suggested not to? Just wondered what people thought before I start filling up my old tank. Excited for something to start happening now heh

It will depend on how often they breed. It is much more taxing for the female to continually produce eggs again and again. The axolotl colony recommended at least 3 months in between, but I've seen as little as one month also be recommended. You definitely want to give her a break and give her body a chance to catch up on nutrients before allowing her to breed again.

here's some photos :)
