So we have Gnats..........LOTS of gnats. i just switched substrate 1 month ago.......and my salamander has been burrowed since i put him back in his new dirt. and boy do i have gnats. what do i do? will fly paper above his tank help? how di i get rid of them? how the heck do they get here?

Most likely you have fungus gnats. They occur in moist organic environments but are harmless to salamanders.....annoying, however, to humans. Gnats appearing is one indicator I use,,, that it is time to change the substrate. I find spot cleaning a few times a week helps control these. Here is a past discussion on hints to help control the beasties:

I just had this happen in my tiger tank, though it appears they only live for about 24-48 hours so they're already pretty much gone. I used Apple cider vinegar in a bottlecap on top of the tank which attracts them, then add a bit of dish washing liquid to make the consistency too think for them to escape from. After a few days of that I replaced the substrate.

yeah as i said, i replaced his substrate 1 month ago, and within 15 mins of him being put back in, he burrowed, and hasnt come out since, until 2 days ago....the gnats however have been here for several weeks.....at least they are harmful to him, but the damn things are everywhere in the hhouse LOL

ill try the vinegar water thing to try
