i have some tiny white things crawling all over my 2 tigers, i just noticed them today, i cleaned everything in the tank with hot water and rinsed the tank out really good, i put new substrate in and rinsed the tigers off in a soaking tank, i didnt see anymore on them before i put them back in the clean tank. is this all i can do? i have some organic gnat spray but i wasnt sure if i could use anything like that to treat the tank and soil without harming the tiger salamanders.

and one more question, can you catch outside bugs and feed them to them? my kids are always bringing earthworms and crickets in for them, ive never fed them anything except store bought critters.

thanks!

Could be little white mites? Were there larger concentrations around your tiger's poo? So far as I know, they're completely harmless.

And no, absolutely do not use the pesticide.

They could've been springtails. I get them often in my tiger tanks. They're actually beneficial in that they help break down waste products.

to feed out side insects, you have to do a few things first, with earthworms rinse in cold water and watch for them to purge there waste then add them to a container containing clean compost, and feed at will.
for grasshoppers and crickets place them in a large pickle jar with a few tiny holes in the lid for air, mist them with water to clean them, remove any excess water in the jar, then add a few carrots, when there waste turns orange they are safe for your tigers to eat.
I always recommend removing the legs of grass hoppers before feeding.
