So I have two axolotl’s. One is a wild type the other is either lucy or albino I don’t really know the difference but the second one stopped eating for about three days then she started to eat again and now the little red floofs on her girls are falling off. Meanwhile my wild type is doing great. She started to eat a little again but I put her in a sick tank just in case. It started about a week after I put sand in the tank. I made sure it was clean and I got water levels tested today. They are good. I know that she could have eaten some salmon and that could be why she stopped eating but why are her gills falling off? They are on earth worms.

Do you have rough surfaces in the tank? There was a user not too long ago who had a similar problem with their axolotl and realized it was the rough surfaces of a driftwood hide that the animal liked a lot that were causing the gill damage. I believe he resolved the issue by replacing the hide for one that had smoother surfaces.

I do have plants, both real and plastic but the plastic are soft. She’s eating really good again but her gills are still a mess & now she’s got these red spots on her tail. I added a picture of her tank mate. He’s thriving!

For the red spots, try this thread:

As for the hills, hopefully someone more experienced can find but I'll keep scouring the internet.

Ok, so check your water parameters
Ammonia, nitrites, nitrates.

Considering the other thread someone mentioned red spots could be an early sign of bacterial infection, you're probably going to have to quarantine her immediately. Check up on your other axolotl to make certain he doesn't have any symptoms.

Read this article:

[Sorry, forgot you already quarantined her. That was very proactive on your part.]

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail. I also asked this as an actual question in a thread in case anyone wants to answer it there instead of here
