I have question, the GFP Axolotl will be able glow in the dark envirnment??
I mean when i switch off the light in my room when it is night..

Or it really needs some LED light to light the GFP Axolotl up???

If it really needs some expensive LED light to make it glow,
i won't buy the GFP instead of normal type .

If you mean glow in the dark, then no, a wild-type won't. A leucistic ( white ) shows up more when LED's are used. Most avoid it as the lights are too bright and scary for the axies.

did that answer the question?

ok.. so i think i don't need to buy GFP type.,.

GFP, or green fluorescing protein, axolotls will fluoresce in UV light, aka blacklights. They do not glow in the dark.

You can get a light that it will glow under for $10 or less. Leaving it on all the time is not a good idea though.

My axolotls have leds and are ok but i have a massive plant that covers the surface. Black lights are what would really make them glow but keeping that on the axolotls for extended periods of time is not good. The most you can do if you buy them is go "HEY my axies glow ::turn on light:: SEE ::turn off light::" :p

often the FGP will have green eyes even without special lighting

I've always wondered if actinic lighting would make them super bright. I had a friend who kept glofish under actinic lighting, and they were way brighter than under a blacklight

I have 3GFP wild type and 2 leucistic~
all of them glow when I turn on my night theme blue LED light.
I love watching them glow in the dark~~

Carson, I've thought the same thing. I've also had this same question when it comes to N. strauchii, but so far have not been able to satisfy my curiosity.

Just got to your closest home depot and buy a compact fluorescent black light. $4.99
It will fit in to any standard light fixture.

I have a little hinged / swivel lamp with a blacklight bulb in it. Is it the best ? No. But it was like, $10 total.

I used to keep my two gfp axolotls in a 20 gallon tank that had a fluorescent light and a black-light that i could switch it into. I also kept some glow in the dark plants in there. At night it looked pretty cool for the 10 or so min a week it was on :p. Now they are in a 75 gallon tank and i went to my local walmart and found a flashlight that is a black-light so i use that now. Here's a few pics as well.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

sorry I am having a hard time trying to upload the pictures- I have them saved on my hard drive... any suggestions-the prompts here are not allowing for downloads that way as far as I can tell. Thanks
