Hello,
i'm a member from way back and i need some help for a breeding assignment.
if an axie has the genes d/d, m/m, A/a and AX/AX
what colour would it be called?
Thanks
Crysti

the d/d would make it white (lack of migration of melanocytes from the neural crest), m/m would make it melanoid (lack of iridophores), A/a would make it non-albino (a/a is albino), and AX/AX would mean it has yellow (plenty of axanthophores, whether or not they migrate of the neural crest, they're still there). So I suspect this animal would probably be a leucistic; white-ish with black eyes and black freckles on the face and dorsal surface.

wow Joan, i never really knew what those meant but now i do. THANKS

Hey guys,
i hope that you dont mind me putting in my own question

.

I have a male axanthic albino (a/a and ax/ax, i think), and a female golden albino (D/D a/a or D/d a/a, again i think). What would the babies turn out to be? mabe joan could answear this as she seems to know alot about the topic?

And whats the difference between like a capital d (D) and a small d (d)( im not talking aobut jsut the letter d im also talking aobut other letters like m etc) in like the genetic coding, e.g. D/d, M/m, D/D, A/a etc.

I highly doubt it's axanthic, as these are very weak at hatching and rarely survive. It's probably a/a Ax/ax, but if you don't know his D status, that won't help much. But all the babies will be albinos of sorts.

D = dark
d = light (color cells don't migrate off neural crest, like leucistics)

m/m = melanoid (M/m and M/M are non-melanoid), meaning they've got very few iridophores or xanthophores, and a/a is albino.

So assume your male is d/d (probably giving the appearance of axanthism) and your female is D/d or d/d, your offspring will all be D/d (these will look like goldens) or d/d (white), and all will be albino. So you'll get a mix of white albinos and golden albinos, possibly.
