Gender Confusion

I think my axies are gender confused...
our male is carrying eggs and the female has a boy bit... go figure...

we always thought they were the other way around..... but HE has gotten so big round the belly region in the last few days... and SHE has developed the male bulge in the last few days.....
Very scary....
Spose i will have to watch carefully what happens now.. I wanted babies and maybe i will get some.....hmmmmmm

Males can get fat just like females, but females are known better for their round appearance. As for the female, their cloaca can swell up quite a bit after they poo, or when they're preparing to lay eggs.

And just to be a kill joy it could be down to gravel being ingested..... but I am really hoping i'm wrong and you'll be seeing a decorated tank full of eggs soon.

the gravel i have is only a wee bit larger than grains of sand 2-3mm max and maybe he found some attractive, the other one hasnt had a prob...Im picking up 2 more axies today to put in my other cycled tank. I had bare floor for 2 years and hated it. plus needed more surface area i felt.

I shall just wait and see.......

Funnily enough i had the same thing, Krystal was a female and Axel a boy (hense the names) But nope its the other way round! its weird calling her Axel knowing shes a she. However these days i just call her Mummy, as shes had loverly little eggs which should be hatching any day now!
