Hi all, I've just set up a 150L (40gallon) tank (90cm x 36cm) which now houses 3 beautiful axies! (see attached)
This charming yellow fellow is named Frankie-Four-Fingers, the blushing ivory lady is Marjorie Stewart Baxter and the dashing dark gent(i think?) is The Thunderchild. They enjoy: eating, eating, long walks on the beach (their sand substrate) and eating.
I hope that after getting them acquainted and fattening them up a bit i can start a breeding program. If that works out I'll be keen to move some of the young on if anyone in the Melbourne area is interested.
I have been trying to predict their pigment cell genes, as a PhD student in molecular biology i have a bit of a knowledge of genetics, but if anyone can assist id be most grateful:
I think Frankie may be a yellow albino (D/-, M/-, a/a, Ax/-), He has shiny rings around his eyes and shiny spots all over his yellow skin.
Marjorie may be a melanoid while albino (D/-, m/m, a/a, Ax/-), She has black eyes and NO shiny ring around he eyes.
The Thinderchild may be a melanoid (D/-, m/m, A/-, Ax=?), He/She also lacks shiny rings around the eyes.
Can anyone confirm this by the photos?
I'll add more photos as the little guys have proven quite photogenic and continuously provide great photo opportunities. Ill also love the opportunity to talk anything axie as i learn a bit more about these fascinating animals!
Cheers,
Jonno
