Fungus?

A few days ago, Juju had a fluff of fungus (I think) on his injured toe, and it was looking rather red and sore. I recently did a 50% water change and added some fresh plants to the tank, which seemed to liven up both the axies. Soon after, the fungus was gone and the toe looked less red and sore. I figure it'd start healing, but today there's another bit of fluff, and I'm not sure if it's fungus or some weird part of the healing process?

At the same time, Aztec has an old nibbled gill has started to make progress on growing back, but today I noticed a little bit of white fluff on the tip of one of them (two are injured).

I saw John mention on another post to add a pinch of table salt to the water to aid in getting rid of this stuff. Would that be helpful here? A pinch of table salt is a whole lot easier to obtain than Holtfreter's, much to my dismay.

Katy, salt is good to help get rid of fungus, also try protozin (antifungus blue stuff) if they sell in Oz.

the salt shouldn't harm in any case.

it's a little hard to tell but anything fluffy usually turns out to be fungus. The salt won't harm and neither will the protozin.

i have a black axie, and i have had him for 2 months, and in the last week or so he has starting coming up with grey/white spots all over him, its not growing on him its like its in his skin, and he has had bits of skin hanging off him, not chunks but its like he is shedding or something? he is by himself in the tank

You will want to start giving your axolotl salt baths twice a day. Please look back through older posts on Salt Baths to find the correct measurements of water and salt to use. Measure carefully as salt can burn your axolotls skin and gills. There is also information on salt baths at http://www.axolotl.org

The salt baths should help clear up the skin, but you need to find out what caused the problem and correct it.

Could you give us some information on your tank conditions? Water temp, ammonia reading, nitrite reading. Was your tank just set up 2 months ago? How often to you add or remove water and how much?
