Took a snapshot of an unfertilized Axolotl egg infected by a fungus.

wow..I never noticed any with fungus before..yet another great photo!!

I find some eggs with a fungus occasionally - but it is alway unfertilized ones. Usually I remove them as soon as I see a fungus but I separated this one for documentary purposes (unfortunately the yellow-green background of the javafern piece is unfavorable for a decent photo).

The interesting part is that fertilized eggs with healthy larvae do not get infected even if they are right next to an egg like this so developing eggs / embryos seem to have some natural fungicide. On the other hand I heard reports from people breeding other amphibians (f.i. some frogs or salamandra) who lost whole batches to fungus.

Good photo but I find the object quite disgusting :D
