Hello

I have two axolotl's in the same tank (separated by a divider).

Earlier this week, one of them (Bubbles) formed some fungus on his gill, it fell off and nothing for a couple of days, but new fungus has now formed on one of his other gills.

Recently I noticed he hasn't been pooping that much and I have been monitoring. Each of the axolotls has a hide, a corner piece of black plumbing that they can go to when desired. I realised this week that the one who has the fungus had pooped in the hide so I think that him hanging out in there with the poop is probably why the fungus has appeared.

The other axolotl (Lucus), is fine, I change the water weekly (25%) and the temp is generally around 18/19 degrees, I have ammonia and ph monitors in the tank, so I don't believe water quality is the issue.

Anyway, to my point, I am going to tub the Bubbles today and start the salt bathing process, but am wondering if I need to also fridge him which I think might be a little extreme.

I have attached an image to show the fungus, if someone could come back to me and let me know if I should be fridging, that would most appreciated.

Thanks

do a regular test of all parameters as nitrites can also cause fungus issues, axolotls are a slight brackish moderate to hard water creatures so although most are ok with just freshwater some can be susceptible to issues such as fungus, adding 2g of marine salt per litre tank water should clear the fungus and prevent recurrences.
research and look into using modified holtfreters solution which will provide all the minerals and salts required.

Is sea salt ok instead of marine salt?

yes provided it isn't for human consumption it should be fine, table salt etc.. has iodine added to it which can be catastrophic for axolotls
