Recently one of my axolotls got what appeared to be some fungus on her gill tip and a spot on her back. I've done salt baths twice now, a day apart, for 10 minutes in 2 teaspoons of API aquarium salt per liter. I've also been doing some daily water changes.

However looking at her this morning she has some kind of wound near the base of her tail. I'm afraid she banged herself up while torpedoing around the tank as I tried to get her into a tub. I try to be gentle as I can of course but she HATES being touched or moved. I was also worried about the white spot on her back. Is it fungus? It looks kind of like loose skin hanging off. I'm paranoid that it's some kind of parasite?

Tank temp has not gotten over 68 and is typically around 65. She's in a 40 gallon that did have one other axolotl but I've since moved the other one into a separate tank with some Indian almond leaves. Tank mate seems fine. 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, and about 30 nitrate when I checked the levels earlier this week after first noticing the fungus. Here are the levels as I checked them this morning.

Here are some pictures of the spot on her back. I tried to feed her this morning but she wouldn't eat. It's only been about 2 days maybe since her last feeding so hopefully she'll come around soon.

Should I continue salt baths? Or will they irritate the wound spot? I'm so worried, I love her so much. Thanks for any help.

I don't know what to tell you, I never kept axies or did salt baths or even checked my water parameters.
Here's general information that you might have seen:
I don't have a specific answer for you but I would like to refer you to these helpful articles on Health,

Thank you, I did have a look though those articles beforehand. I decided to just leave her alone and keep her water cool and clean. Moving her around for any type of bath just seemed to stress her out way too much.

I tried to feed her and she ate one worm piece but that was it. Still not too too worried about that.

She's been hiding all day, which is usual for her, so I haven't gotten a great look at her, but looking just now the fungus spot on her back looks a lot better. Her gill is still kind of pale in the spot where the fungus was but I don't see any visible fungus hanging off.

She is acting kind of skittish lately, like running and hiding when she sees any light. But she's looking a bit better. Hopefully with time she will make a full recovery.

Did you put the Indian Almond leaves in her tank? They are supposed to have antiseptic qualities and are recommended all over posts about sick axies on this forum. I haven't had to deal with illness yet, so I can't offer any advice from personal experience. I will say you should read through the rest of the sick posts on here to get information. That seems to be the best and fastest way to get answers to questions. You can also try looking for a Facebook group; I've read on here that there are several good ones, but I haven't looked to join any yet. I'm glad to hear she's doing better now. Good luck!

I probably should put the leaves in her tank now, you're right. I only hadn't because I'd read that it's counter intuitive to use them along with salt baths because the tannins tighten the pores, which supposedly helps against infections but makes salt treatments somewhat useless. But since I probably won't be doing anymore salt baths I will go ahead and add them.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
