My golden axolotl has grey fungus hanging off of his gills and I am sure how to treat this if it is a disease. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had two axolotl given years ago with lots of fungus on their gills
I used a salt bath which cleared the fungus problem up quickly.
Don't remember what the salt concentration was, or for how long I emersed them each time, but I'm sure I found the details of how to do it on this site

Are you sure their water parameters are ok? I would test for ammonia, nitrite and especially nitrate straight away. I found that gill fungus is almost always caused by stress brought on when I'd let water quality slip or the temperature creep up. Once things were back to normal the axies would recover from it quite quickly on their own.

I just did a water change, so the water is probably fine. I have Indian Almond leaves in there already and a live plant. I don't want to do a salt bath unless absolutely necessary. Here is a picture. It was much worse before the water change, and this morning I saw fungus actually hanging off of his gills.

Has the water temp been high? They are prone to this when the water is too warm. I can see the light colored tips on the gills. You could perhaps try fridging him for a few days first to see if there is any improvement. I have cured an axie of the same problem by doing this.

I honestly don't see any fungus in this picture and I certainly wouldn't jump to fridging him. Just keep the water clean and cool, maybe extra water changes with cool water until he is completely cleared up but he doesn't look bad in the picture, I say keep doing what you're doing and it should go away on its own, they usually heal pretty well.

Is he eating? Stress and illness decreases an axolotl's appetite.

He is eating, though he doesn't always eat always eat normally anyway. After the water change it started going away, so I lowered the temperature with ice. The problem seems to be going away now and thank you for all your help.

Good:happy:
Nothing like cool fresh water to cure an axie!
