I've one larva just developing rear legs and am going to try feeding him thawed out bloodworms. Until now he's been happy with daphnia. How many bloodworms should I give him in a feeding and does he need feeding more than once a day?

He should be fed twice a day. Just use a little bit of bloodworm and if he doesn't consume any after an hour remove it. Repeat the process for evening. Larvae can take a fortnight or more to adapt to new "dead" food, after being on live food, so just persevere.

Is now the right time to be trying thawed bloodworm? Is there any point in keeping with the daphnia or trying live bloodworm?

I kept up the live food with some of my larvae as they didn't take as readily to thawed bloodworm, 3 of my larvae just didn't take to it at all. Some managed to eat a bit within a week, some took up to a fortnight to a month to coax.

Mine readily ate various sizes of live bloodworm, daphnia, small earthworms, mosquito larvae prior to being introduced to thawed bloodworm. You may have more luck with the live bloodworm if the thawed doesn't work!

Obviously defrosted blood worm would be much easier and I'd like to perservere, however I don't want to put the axie at risk if he's not going to eat them. How long can he go without eating? I suppose that if I'm trying to encourage him to eat the thawed worms, there is no point giving him any live food?

my babies are almost 4 weeks old, about a week ago i started giving them frozen bloodworm 10-15 minutes before their live food. by the time they have finished their live food they have eaten the bloodworm as well. soon i think i will be able to ween them off live food altogether. when feeding the bloodworm i use a razorblade to shave the end of the cube so they only get small bits.:D
