Frogs as axie friends?

I'm planning on getting an axolotl in December or so (plenty of time to both save money and cycle a tank), possibly 2. I'll get either a 20 or 25 gallon tank--whichever my friend decides to sell me (she has some extras that her fish have outgrown; she's an aquarium enthusiast).

Another friend of mine has a pet frog. I'm not really sure what kind it is, but it's pink (albino) and palm-sized and lives entirely in the water (no sandy banks or anything like that in her tank). From what I can tell, her tank setup seems pretty axolotl-compatible, and I've been thinking of getting one along with an axolotl.

Do axies and froggies get along well? I know goldfish aren't an option, since they'll nibble on the gills; is that a concern with frogs, too? Will they fight? I know my friend's frog doesn't do much but sit and float, and he doesn't seem aggressive whatsoever.

Has anyone tried this?

Hi there a quick answer to this is a no only mix axies with axies. good luck

take a look at the link in my signature.
of course it's all your choice, but the answer is no.

Just to make sure this point is pushed across...a big fat NO!

Again, I will push this answer towards no. Why mix frogs with axolotls when they clearly can become easy prey for them? The frogs and axies are at danger, I know it seems it would look cool or be cool to have them living together. But frogs don't naturally dwell in the wild axolotls habitat.

Get another axolotl if you want a tank mate. Get some frogs in a vivarium with other frogs if you want frogs. Although, they are a bit harder to take care of than axies.

Big no from me.

As others have advised, not a good idea. The type of frog you seem to be describing sounds like an African Clawed frog and these guys tend to go after anything that moves. He would most likely pick on the axolotl's gills and such, possibly leading to death. Also, the frog and axolotl will have different temp requirements.

Maybe your friend can make you a deal on two tanks if you really want both or you could check online for used tanks and find something cheap...

Okay so, you guys were so conflicting and unclear, but I'm just gonna take a wild stab and say that you're thinking it would be a bad idea? :p
Just playing. :) I s'pose I'll be sticking with two axolotls then.

Which is just as well, because I was trying to decide between breeds... now I don't have to choose!

I'm sorry, I forgot to mention the toxicity levels of different amphibians, the frog will most likely poison the axolotl anyway, never mind eating eat other.

Very good point there! All amphibians secrete toxins throught their skin which can be toxic to other amphibians so apart from all the other apparant dangers this is another biggie! If you wanna keep anything with axies go for dwarf shrimp (cherry/amano etc) not only are they great for keeping tank clean they are also a nutritious snack if your axies can catch em!

I'd also put my money on the frog beating up the axolotl. They can be mean little guys, they have their claws, and take full advantage of that fact. And if there's competition for food, they will frenzy. (Having them nibble on your fingers has the same level of adorable though.)

If they don't end up secreting something that poisons them, their MASSIVE amounts of poop will. They are poop factories. They have it down to an art. I swear more comes out than goes in. I think they're the amphibian you hear about making the most salmonella and causing issues (They and ADFs), but I think that's probably due to a mix of semi-popularity, and bad handling.

They're fantastic, don't get me wrong. They all have a personality, and they'll be active and happy to see you, but they make obscene amounts of waste. But I wouldn't put them with any other sort of pet either. ...Maybe a snail, shrimp if you don't mind them going missing eventually. (I don't think I could personally buy either Amanos, due to the fact they'd probably become a gourmet snack somewhere down the line. I always have a hard time finding them, and if not, they're expensive, but it might be location for me.)
