Hey all! Just saw something in one of my local pet stores that got my mind turning. Happened to see among the fish food some food for frogs and tadpoles, small pellets. Now, just a random thought, has anyone tried these for axolotl larvae? Since they are quite tadpole like? I know everyone on here swears by baby brine shrimp and daphnia as first food sources for our little ones, but I was just made curious by seeing tadpole food. Any thoughts?

Tadpoles are herbivores, axolotl larvae are carnivores. Tadpole food would be nutritionally wrong.

In addition, young axolotls usually won't eat anything that doesn't move.

That's what I figured, thanks for responding! I don't know much about frogs, so I didn't know their tadpoles were strictly herbivorous. I knew that axolotl larvae need the live food, since they hunt using sight. Just figured I'd ask! One of those things that got my gears turning in my head, wondering about it. *shrugs* My baby axie is happy with his brine shrimp and daphnia, thank you very much! :p

Way to think outside the box, though!

Nutritionally, being carnivores, that could be a possibility. Morally, however... :errr:

LOL

I guess that depends on where you source your orphans. If they're from a sustainable, low impact farm...
