Hi All,

I haven't visited this forum for quite some time...Something new has come up over the past couple of weeks, and I'm seeking advice.

I have 6 happy, healthy Chinese Firebelly newts, 4 of whom I raised from tiny eggs. The babies are over 2 years old now. I have raised them on frozen bloodworms ( live before, but switched to frozen when stores weren't shipping in the live stuff anymore). To my surprise, recently, I have been informed that Canada no longer ships frozen bloodworms in anymore, and so, I've been attempting to feed my little ones frozen brine shrimp. All of my newts turn their heads upon my presenting the shrimp to them. It seems as though there is almost no food left in the tank after a few hours....I'm hoping it's not just the filter picking it up, and that they are, in fact, eating the food.

Any suggestions? I'm concerned that my little ones aren't actually eating...It has been about a week and a half, now. I did give them one meal of the frozen bloodworms I had left about 4 days ago. I just have a little bit of the bloodworms left, and then I will only have the brine shrimp.

Thanks!!!

Are you willing to dice up earthworms? That's a great, healthy staple. You could also see about finding blackworms...

you could try with some frozen artemies, they are enough great, otherwise with some alive worms.

Thanks for your suggestions! I don't know how to go about getting live worms...I don't think anyone has them here, now, and the ground is frozen at the moment where I live....I don't know how to obtain earthworms...I could easily chop them up...no problem...I just don't know where to get them from.

Artemia = Brine Shrimp and they are not the best food suited as a staple diet they are good for treats/variety. You're best bet is earthworms as stated above. I get mine from Bass Pro, any store that sells live bait is usually sufficient enough but I would recommend finding out where they get their worms from first.

If you're not comfortable getting from a bait shop then I recommend Rob at Canadian Feeders - Your One Stop Feeder Shop!. He has great customer service and his live feeders are always top knotch!

Cheers,
Alex
