Hello Axolotl Lovers :D

I know it's hard to believe, but I have another question :proud:

Foam under the tank, to distribute tank weight...

I have looked up other posts, and people here use them... But

1. Where do you get it??
2. What type of "foam" is it?
3. What do I ask for at the store, or look up on google?
Surely there are all different types of foam?

We are setting up a 65 gallon tank, (36" Long x 18" Wide x 21" High) and it is as wide as the shelf itself.

I think it would be wise to put the foam padding under the tank that they talk about here (shown on the diagram as 'number 7'):

hey! it's usually just that cheap Styrofoam stuff, my pet store actually sells it! I'd try a hardware store or something like that, although I got mine from an old packing box.

I know quite a few people use 'yoga mats' just cut to size and away you go :D

In the past i have used some puppy training pads (a few on top of each other) because they are waterproof haha

But i think the generally idea is something shock absorbent and that will 'cushion' your tank so its weight is even and it wont crack.

Hello

Here in NZ we use polystyrene. I got some from trademe (same as ebay) for super cheap and just cut it to fit the tank. I had a three foot bow front tank on a inch thick piece and it worked perfectly. I think it also helps to regulate the temp but I had 10mm glass which made a huge help too so I don't really know how true that is

I have an offcut of carpet under mine, fairly heavy duty with thick wool pile. It works well. Some of my tanks have a plastic support frame on the base so they don't need cushioning.
