Hi everyone.

I took advantage of PetSmart's $1 for 1 gallon sale today and snagged the last 20 long in the store.

I'll be putting tile on the bottom tomorrow, getting a stand, and getting everything set up over the next several days.

My goal is to fully cycle this tank while leaving my juvenile Axolotl in the 10 gallon he's in, and continuing with the water changes and such in that tank as I've been doing. This way I can move him into the 20 long once it's fully cycled and hopefully not worry about any cycling issues. I the will turn my current 10 gallon into a shrimp tank!!!!

Anyway, I'm not really concerned about cost, and I want to go with the best possible setup. So I'm looking into getting a canister filter to maximize filtration while hopefully being able to minimize water flow.

I'm looking at the Fluval 106, which is rated for up to a 25 gallon tank. I know that the Axolotl doesn't like water flow, so I'm a bit concerned that this filter might ultimately be a bit too much.

I know the Fluval has adjustable flow, so I'm assuming that I would be able to adjust the flow appropriately and have it not be an issue.

Looking for any input here.

Thanks
Jeff

I ended up going with a Penn-Plax Cascade 500. Good reviews on Amazon, materials and parts available there as well, and it saved me $30.

I figure I'm probably going to end up with a chiller this spring anyway, so I may as well go with something that has the ability to force the water from the filter, through the chiller, then back into the tank. That way I won't have to worry about buying a separate pump just for the chiller.
