Sorry, I put this in the wrong place...(feels stupid...)

[original post:
I am looking into getting some live plants for my cynops orientalis tank, and I was wondering if anybody here has had any experiences with floating plants (i.e. names, care, and any problems they might cause for the newts).

I added it back in so the reader would realize what issue was being addressed; no biggie about the rest! -otterwoman ]

I moved your post into a different section.
Did you do a search of the site on different plants? The problem with plants and caudates is that most plants require a lot of light, but a lot of light warms the tank up too much for caudates. There are a few plants that are low-light plants. The best is, I think, Java weed.

Here are some threads to start in on the subject so you can get an idea of the challenges caudate tanks and plants present:

I searched "Aquarium" and "plants," but you can just search "plants" or "floating plants" or whatever.

Good luck!

I agree with dawn. I would like to add Spongia sp. in addition to Java Moss. Also known as pennywort, these small floating little lily pad looking plants are great for dimming down your aquatics.

Depending on your light situation you could also float riccia. I keep riccia in my white cloud minnow tank where the water is 66-70 degrees no problem. I am lighting it with a 26watt pc bulb though. But I imagine if you float riccia on the water 2 t8's would be sufficient for light.
