Re: Floating axalotl, fungus and not eating

Salt baths everyday for about 10 mins. At this point the axolotl might be to sick to eat and its appetite is no more. I've gotten rid of fungus without having to fridge an axolotl. Steady with salt baths and that should handle the fungus. Rid the fungus totally and the axolotls' appetite will come back. Getting rid of the fungus is the imperative and the axolotl eating is 2nd. Good luck.

Re: Floating axalotl, fungus and not eating

That;s one poorly looking Axie,

Good luck pal, I hope the salt baths get rid of that nasty fungus soon.

Re: Floating axalotl, fungus and not eating

i dont know where he's getting his energy from! i just gave him a salt bath, this time all of it came off. makes me feel a little bit more posotive. i put him into a large container apposed to the tank to make cleaning and putting fresh water in easier. man i love that little guy im so worried :( once i put him back into the normal water he like colappsed on to his tummy the poor little guy, i thought he had died but his gills where still moving in and out occasional. he's now moved back up onto his legs. should i try and give him food? i feed him blood worms. i dont want to make his infection worse should i try feeding him just the dry pellete axalotl food? when will i know he's ready to eat? :( so concerned for that little guy he hasnt eatin in AGES how long do you think he will last without food :(:bowl::eek:

Re: Floating axalotl, fungus and not eating

by the way thank you so much everyone i appreciate all of your help! :) it means so much that people actaully care so much about helping animals that so many of you would take the time to write out advice and help problem solve for the sake of the species. cheers.

Re: Floating axalotl, fungus and not eating

at the moment he's moving like a maniac trying to get out of the container when he thinkns im not about! is this a good or bad sign im scared he might ware himself out to much! to feed or not to feed?

Re: Floating axalotl, fungus and not eating

Hi Rebecca,

I'm no expert but I think popular concensus here for any sick Axie is to first remove deal with parameters and water conditions and then to try and get the Axie as relaxed as possible and let time do it's thing.

You're doing great, you've removed him from the main tank, which could be the issue, you've got him in clean water and removed the presence of fungus.

Now I think the best thing is to get his temp down, in a fridge or wherever and just let him be. Some Axies don't feed for weeks in a fridge, and from his size in the photos I don't think he's underweight or in any dangerous territory.

Once he's relaxed he'll stop panicking and should be fine.

Re: Floating axalotl, fungus and not eating

awesome thanks :) it was so gross last night though! i tried to get his fungus off! some was sooooooooo stuck it was so sad :( and this morning i woke up and his new water was covered in white fungus twas gross. all off it came loose this time. i'm hoping thats a good sign :) if the fungus isnt present tomorrow should i still give him a salt bath just incase theres a little of the infection left?

Re: Floating axalotl, fungus and not eating

the only thing im worried about is that he's trying to get out of the container! it covers him by 2 or 3 cm and is about 5 times his size in each direction (it's a square) is this bad do you think or is he just trying to get used to his new perimiters?

Re: Floating axalotl, fungus and not eating

Rebecca, have you been changing the water daily in the container he's in.
You just need to make sure the ammonia doesn't build up. (this could make him act the way you describe)

Re: Floating axalotl, fungus and not eating

Hi,

I don´t want to confuse you, but I don´t think that it is fungus. The white stuff which is getting off is the slime coat of the skin. I wouldn´t do any salt baths again, but a tea bath, as amphibian boy suggested or if you can get it in Australia catappa leaves. That will help the skin to recover.....and keep him in cold and clean water.

I don´t know why the skin was peeling off that way, but maybe bad water conditions in the tank or an infection. The gills aren´t looking well, too.
Do you habe a test kit for testing ammonia, nitrite and nitrate? What are the readings?
How often have you done water changes in the tank?

Re: Floating axalotl, fungus and not eating

so if i tea bath him. what do i do? just put a tea bag into water? lol! help me out :D:ufo:

Re: Floating axalotl, fungus and not eating

another thing there is no fungi present but his tail is still very bent :( how long does it take for fungal infections to go away?

Re: Floating axalotl, fungus and not eating

I need to get an amino and nitrate test I only know the ph who've is 6.4 I've been changing his water daily.

Re: Floating axalotl, fungus and not eating

I think he's going to die. He's hardly moved all day he's in a tea bath. It appears fungi is growing on his feet. Should I mice I'm into another salt bath? Or. Should I leave I'm in the tea. I think he's going to die :(

Had a question that I just want to be sure of. My marbled newt is a little over a year old and has started to develop and I noticed that he is starting to swell a little below his abdomen. I guess I’d like to know if they are his testes or if I need to be concerned.

Hello!!! I'm new to this website and idk how to ask a proper question on the designated spot yet, so I'll ask here, I'm a first time Axolotl owner, and my dad used to run an aquarium store, anyways... Orca, my Axolotl, seems to loose parts of her toes on one limb from time to time, I can't seem to find the problem. Tempature is well, she doesn't seem to have any infections or anything, though. And I'm not sure if I'll be able to find a vet in Brazil for amphibians that are in a reasonable distance to drive without stressing Orca out too much

Hello, I’m hoping for some advice please. Our Axolotl is about 7 months old. Till now no problem. Eating, growing and happy. He’s simply stopped eating. Everything looks fine, his gills look healthy and no apparent signs of sickness. He just swims past the pellets and bloodworm like he can’t smell it. I don’t think it’s a blockage either. Any ideas and suggestions for treatment would be much appreciated. Thank you!
