Flies

Trying to give my newts a wide variety of food I also give my newts fly larvae.

Last time I let my larvae hatch and I have now flies. I tried feeding them to my pleuros (they are to big for my cynops orient.) At first they didn't show any interest as it always is with new food and even later when they tried it they spit it back out.

I left the flies in the tank and during the night they must been eaten after all as they are nowhere to be found.

Question: are flies a good, healthy meal for my pleuros? I can cover them in extra vitamins, no problem. But the latter I can do with anything they eat

I don't feed adult flies to caudates much, but I do to anurans. I dust with calcium/vitamin supplement, but I also feed the flies on milk/honey/water mixture before use which improves their nutritional value somewhat. Just leave them with a little of the mix in a shallow cap for 8-24 hours before use.

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
