My olive coloured axie (lotty) seems to have flaky skin. When i run my finger over the area softly the skin comes away and you cant tell that it has flaked.

Is this flaky skin or a sort of fungus or disease of some sort?

to be safe should i use some wateer treatments???

Thanks

i think i read somewhere that this can be caused by amonia but i could be wrong.can someone plz revise that one? test for amonia and all those others.have a look on axolotl.org for the list of safe/unsafe water treatments. wasnt much help but maybe that site can help ya a wee bit

Firstly, Brendan you shoulnd't handle your axies too often you touch will rub away their slime coating exposing the skin underneath to infection. How did you first notice this condition? Do you normally handle them often?

I suggest you simply keep in a separate container for a few days and administer salt baths and remember don't be tempted to run your finger up and down to see if she is improving.

Nope that was the first time i handled her and i did it out of worry.

My mum was the first to notice it. And the only thing out of the ordinary with lotty was that she was hiding a bit more then often.

And nope, i rarely handle them. The only time touch my axies is when feeding and all the is is an accidental slight touch to the head. But the first real time i have touched was aas i said the ohter day out of pure worry.

Thankls for your help. Much appreciated.

PS. I dont think it is due to ammonia because i did test and there was no sign of ammonia. Could it be cause by nitrite or nitrate highnes levels?
