Hi. I have recently started keeping axolotls after a long time without any pets.
I have a male and female and they have laid about 300 to 500 eggs for me since the end of 2013.
Here is what I remembered to do and I think these things help when trying to get axolotls to reproduce.
I use bare bottom tanks but a place a few flat slate rock pieces down, I heard it's easier to deposit spermatophores on the slate.
Different types of live plants and a few plastic ones. Variety allows your female to lay where she feels comfortable.
I feed heavy and then perform 1/3 tank water changes with aged tap water and then turn down the heater. In my basement it gets down to 40F (4.5C) so I actually use heaters this time of year.
So far so good.
