Had them about 2 or 3 weeks now. Love em. Could watch them all day long.

Those are some cute axies. What are their names?

That's a nice looking golden axie you got there!

Their gills are so big and beautiful! I'd watch them all day too!

Another Update Time! The axies are roughly 8.5 inches now. In my last post they were contained in a 20 gallon long tank but since then have been upgraded to a 40 gallon breeder tank with live plants and natural rock (except cave). They are doing amazing and never have problems. The water used to be consistently around 71F but now Fall weather is moving in so the tank is steady at 68F.

Tanks mates (Time in tank): 1 Golden Dojo Loach (2 months), 1 Albino pleco (1.5 months), 1 Sunset platy (3 months), and 1 Goldfish (3 weeks). I had other tank mates that I owned before the axies joined along such as zebra danios and other platys but have since been devoured. The axies are very tolerant of the loach and pleco but will night hunt after any smaller community fish.

Overall: Tank and inhabitants are doing fantastic.

Beautiful axies! I do have to warn you though, the tankmates might prove to be a problem soon!

The fish obviously aren't a problem because your axies have lovely gills, but the pleco and dojo loach could be problematic.

I'm surprised you still have the loach, to be honest. At his current size he can still fit in their mouths. You will probably end up with a dead loach, or a dead axie (it wouldn't be able to swallow it). Now, if he makes it to a larger size, the axies won't pose a threat to him anymore, but as far as I know, dojo loaches get REALLY big and will need a larger tank.

The plec is dangerous because they tend to have a taste for axolotl slime coat. There have been plenty of very sad cases here on the forum where someone put a plec with an axolotl and the plec decided to suck on the poor axie. This tends to end in severe skin damage to the point of the skin coming off all together! Very very painful looking and results in a dead axie.

Perhaps consider changing up their housing so that all your critters are safe?

The loach and pleco have been in there for months with limited problems.

The loach does have some battle scars that have healed up over the last few weeks. So he defiantly has seen some inside action of the albinos mouth. But since then he keeps his distance and is usually on opposite side of the tank. He can defiantly fit in their mouths (Not length wise though, loach is almost the same length as the axies) but from seeing the albino snatch up larger fish she spits it back out if unable to fit the whole thing.

As for the pleco I have never once seen him go for or be attacked by either axie. The pleco has had minimal growth since I got him so I don't think he poses a threat as I have never seen any skin spots on either axie. If he starts to grow all of a sudden then I will consider moving him to the tank downstairs.

Unless there is some behind the scenes war going on in my tank when I'm asleep or not in my room then all is harmonious in the tank with them four.

If I thought there was a real danger I would have moved them by now, but they "seem" to play nice. But I get where your coming from, Plecos love the backs of dwarf frogs too. And I may just move the pleco to the 45G just to ease your mind.

correct me if I'm wrong, but don't loaches have spines under there eyes? (I know the clown loach does) some plecos can also get rather large and attach to your axies.

I would re-home them fast. you keep axies and it's your responsibility as a keeper to house them appropriately.

Dojos have no spine but I will relocate both :)
