I was wondering if there is a way to get my firebellies to breed. what plants and conditions are needed for this. And what do you do if they have babies. I am a newb at breeding so any suggestion helps. Thanks
Joe, newts will breed in captivity if (1) they are healthy, and (2) they have received very good care for the past year or two. If you just got them, you need to focus on ALL aspects of good quality care (food, water quality, temperature, etc.). There are no particular plants required. In a year or two, if all goes well, they will take it upon themselves to breed. They normally breed in spring, but if you just got them, they are likely to be too stressed to breed this coming spring.
There is no way to "force" them into breeding condition. Sometimes someone will get lucky and buy newts that are already in breeding condition, but I don't hear of this happening often with firebellies.
I was wondering how a possible way to 'encourage' not force fire bellies to breed. Do they like cool temp. I have read all the articles on breeding and didn't understand it fully Thanks for all the help
plants, similating seasonal changes by decreasing & increasing food amount/ changing temperature/ changing water level. These should encourage them to breed. And I dont think there is anyway you can force an animal to breed...
I would say, plenty of food and good water quality all year round. Vary the temperature and amount of daylight to be synchronized with outdoors. In other words, keep them cooler and with a shorter light cycle in winter.
Is that fairly clear? If you have some specific questions, those are easier to answer. Unfortunately, there is no single trigger or simple thing you can do to encourage them to breed.
