I got a fire salamander about two months ago. He immediately ate 3 crickets. The only other thing he has eaten is a single earthworm. He is on eco earth coco fiber, cool, hiding places, clean water etc. I've tried crickets, earthworms, mealworms, and wax worms. He does not want anything. Does anyone have any ideas what else I can try to feed him. I appreciate the help.:(

Are you sure he hasn't eaten any crickets? It's pretty difficult to count them. However, fire sals usually have a big appetite and I would expect there would be a significant disappearance of crickets.

You are trying the right foods - earthworms and crickets. And waxworms when all else fails. I'm not coming up with anything else to suggest, just keep trying! Does he look healthy overall?

I have never seen my fire salamander eat. Heck, i barely ever see him at all!! If hes eating hes pooping. Try putting a shallow dish of water down in the substrate, to allow him easy acess, along with some crickets. Then look for floaters. Mine usually poisons the well about once a week with a steady cricket supply..Over the last month ive changed the water more times than ive seen the actual salamander..A terrestrial salamander, that is an aquatic pooper.
