Hi, i'm new to this site, and recently got a sub-adult fire salamander. There are no breeders in my area, so I ordered him online from 888 reptiles, and he seems healthy, docile, and a good weight, but the issue is that he has not eaten anything i've tried to feed him so far. I've tried red worms first, but I heard they were distasteful so bought some maggots and some lob worms from a bait shop, but he hasn't touched them either. Its been 3 days now, and as i've heard fire salamanders are prone to obesity i'm suprised he's not eating. Could someone help me figure out why it's not eating, and what to feed it?

p.s i havn't tried crickets yet as they can escape easily and my housemates would definietly not like that. We also don't have a grassy garden so I cant really find any earthworms or slugs to feed.

thanks

I had that problem with a similar species once. Try 1/8 inch pinner crickets. If that does not work try small wax worms. My sals have done better with planted terrariums, so maybe planting low light ivy like Devil's Ivy or Philodendron would do the trick. Another thing my small terrestrials love is blackworms. I put them on a small piece of wet (unbleached) paper towel.

Hope this helps a bit.
