2 days ago i noticed two soars on my newt, one on its belly and one on the underside of its mouth. i cut up some aloe plants and put them in the water to see if they would help to heal it, i did that for a day then lastnight i put it in a dry container with moist moss, i checked on it today and its gotten worse, there is a hole in the bottom of its mouth now and is bleeding alot more and wont eat, i dont think its going to last too much longer:(.

Unfortunately, these necrotizing skin wounds are quite common with newly imported firebelly newts. It should be assessed by a veterinarian, as usually strong antibiotics are necessary.

I'll contact my local vet but I dont think they deal with small amphibians, I moved it to a small container of moist moss (just damp enough to keep the newt from drying out) instead of in the main tank just in case there is somthing in the water that could be causing it. I have it in a dark quiet part of my room so its not stressed, im going to see if it will still eat tomarrow. I think the wounds make have been self inflicted from some large rocks used to have in it, as soon as I started keeping it aquatic it started shedding its skin so it trying to rub the skin off before hand may have caused it all. just a wild guess

I think I have it contained, I have not used any meds yet but its not spreading or getting worse. The sore on the belly seems to be healing but the lower jaw still looks bad and i can see some bone showing at the tip of the lower jaw, after reading through threads I think the best thing I can do now it keep it clean, cool and calm. I may try some neosporin (w/o the painkillers) tomarrow to see if it will help speed up its healing time.
