Fire belly newt

Hi,
We currently own a fire belly newt, the help of this site we nursed back to health.

We were thinking of purchasing another newt to add to my daughter's tank. (Will be keeping it separate for awhile to make sure it is healthy and not carrying any diseases).

Our question is...is it best or purchase another new of the same type? Or is it possible to have another breed of newt in the same tank?

Species mixing is almost always a bad idea, there are many risks and absolutely no benefits.

By fire belly newt i expect you mean Hypselotriton orientalis, right?
In that case, you can have more than one individual of the same species together, but please before you purchase any, consider all the ethical implications on buying WC animals and buying animals from shops where they are mistreated.
Mixing species is something that never results in any benefits to the animals but always implies risks. A responsible keeper doesn't assume unnecessary risks.
