Hi, I know this is a late reply, but usually when chinese fire bellied newts come out of the water and dry up they get a silvery sheen, once they go back into the water it disappears after a while. From the photos that seems to be what is happening, whenever I notice my newts seem too dry I pour a bit of water over them. If the temperature of the water is too hot you need to get a few fans blowing on the surface of the water/ use frozen dechlorinated water bottles floated in the tank to cool the water down. You could invest in a chiller, usually fans only cool the water by a few degrees, depends how warm it gets. The newt may be staying out of the water due to the temperature of it.
