When I remove this particularly tame Taricha from its tank for its weekly waxworm feeding (it's fed frozen bloodworm every other day), it never resists and sometimes firmly clasps my finger, not immediately letting go when placed on the table and even while feeding

Well, it does always relax its grip by the time the second worm is served. This is not to meant to encourage handling of newts, which I do keep to a minimum ;)

my what nicely manicured finger nails you have there my dear...

, check out my 'whats he up to' post, tarichas seem to have prehensile attributes, i have many who do this. when seeing walking down slope-they will anchor themselves. i even have them hang on to each other during feeding frenzies-just like onto your finger-not a amplexus grip.

Ahh cute,
Mine sometimes do that when I take them out to clean the tank...Its so cute...

Hi Tim, this occurs as well with my Taricha. The tail is surprisingly strong.

Beautiful photos.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
