gorgeous axies! they look nice and fat and happy

how is your aluminium plant fairing? (the big bushy green and white plant) i've been thinking about getting one for myself.

heehee THANKS sin sister!!
I only bought that green and white one on Sat so i cant tell just yet, but so far so good. I found a kinda dodgee looking aquarium around where l live, but the plants are cheap and are in really good condition. Im not sure how long its actually going to last because Fruity (kinda olive axie with the dark purple gills) has fallen in love with it. He continually moves the leaves to where he wants them so he can prop himself on top, i hope he doesnt kill it! I love it too much! hehee

tank looks great Jojo

good to finally c some pics too, ur axies look really happy and well looked after

The aluminium plant i believe is not a true aquatic plant. Ive seen them on sale in pots of soil in the gardening centre. They are a cheap way of geting aqurium plant. THe geneus thing about them is that they last in the aquarium as long as they will hold then they die, and the shops just blame you on it, say you didnt take care of it. Ive bough six of them thinking it was my fault but seeing them in the gardening shop and made me change my mind on the matter. I do have on bunch still surviving, its been a month or two now, growing nicley. All plants will grow in the aquarium ( including garden plants) as long as some of it is above the water. Right now i have some plants from my garden that actualy rooted into my tank substrate. Dont jsut take any plant and plop it in, some of the chemicals in them will kill the fish. I was pointed out to the right plants from a experienced frsh and marine fish/amphibian owner.

Thanks rob!! I hope they're happy =)
Ive been dying to give you a look see!
Yep that is a lillie. I cant remember what its called though. Banana rings a bell though?!
Its going fantastic. It looked abit sad looking when l bought it. I though it would never grow. I originally wanted to plant it on the driftwood, but havent got around to it. I went home last night to see it bigger then what i remembered it as. I take another pic of it so you can see how its really growing. Its only been in there since Sat and its growing rapidly - its great!!

Banana lily, yeh thats what its called. i got one like yours but mine had one of the lilys floating on the surface of the water, and soon to be three

.

Really nice looking axies Jojo, and nice lookin' tank. How many gallons ?
Which plant is everyone talking about as a lily?

Thanks hun! Im pretty proud of it, and my babies! heehee
The lilly is the the smaller one right infront of the driftwood (Fruity's head is right infront of it in the first pic). And my tank is around 45 gallons.

forgot to mention ur plants look really healthy too
happy.gif

will have to keep my eye out for some of them banana lilly's havnt seen em in the shops i usually go to
sad.gif
but will got hunting for em i think...

yeh they are great Rob. Grow rapidly. Well mine is. Yesterday there was a stalk that has shot straight up from nothing and would be well about the water level. I was amazed, i couldnt believe it. Its crazy!
Buy yet in the pic i posted (taken on sunday and monday), is was miniture. its weird!

The banana lily having such a thin stalk, only have to concetrate there enery and recources into a small area, hence the quick growth. Most of the energy is taken up by prodicing new leaves, so when it loses its leaves, or accidently breaks of it wont grow as fast. You must have a great tank environment, for it to grow as fast as that
happy.gif
.

A little hint i learnt is that when a leaf is floating on the surface of the water and the stack snaps in half or breaks, DO NOT remove the leaf from the water. Make sure its always afloat and in no time at all the stalk will grow towards the gravel and start a new banana lily plant. YOu get the most sucess from this when it naturaly breaks of.

Hey Jojo
do u have banana looking things "like bunches" on urs and if so did u bury them in the sand.
i ended up finding em in a shop i use @ $1 each
so got 8 of em
happy.gif
but the bananas look ugly but not sure if they can be buried ? hopefully mine grow as well as ur's
happy.gif
got another 36' light the other day so hope this helps with my plants.. spent lots of $ on plants the other day so i hope so
uhoh.gif

Your axies are cute! I am not gonna show pics of your tank to my 2 axies cause I know they will be jealous LOL

I gave up on live plants cause Lotle and Falkor take such a liking to them that they are all quickly "killed with kindness"
proud.gif

LOL Hey Joanne - thanks for your comments!! I know what you mean with the live plants. My babies have really grown very fond of them (ALL of them)!!

Rob - $1 each?? Thats mad! How big are they? Yeh it looked ugly at first. The only bit i buried in the sand were the white parts of the "bunches" bit (if im making sense).
I NOW have 2 huge stalks and another half way up the tank (in a matter of a few days) =)
Ive been trying to post a pic of it, but its not letting me =(

Also Stipe.. thanks for the info and hint on the banana lilly. I was just thinking yesterday about cropping one of them - lucky l didnt.
Thanks!!! =))) And ill be sure not to remove it from the water if it breaks off - i didnt know that it Thats amazing! What an amazing plant =)) thanks again mate!!

yeah Jojo i thought @ $1 each that was pretty good
happy.gif
most of em have about 5-6 leaves each on them
i ended up burying most of the bananas and they seem to be doing well so far, just left the roots out ?
i did spend about $160 in that shop in the last week and i usually spend a bit there so he looks after me
happy.gif
also got some cool free floating plants for $2 each..

Yeh i think i saw those floaty plants in your "updated tank" thread - i was curious as to what they were.

RE Banana lilly - i put the roots under the sand - thats the only part thats under the sand.
I couldnt barely see what was roots and plant when l first got them. But now.. the roots are porcelin white.

(sorry excuse the spelling. im @ wrk, so i post quick or dont post LOL)
