Hi. It's me again.

Back with a new lot of questions about Filters.

I'm thinking about getting a Clearview Aqua One (hang on back) filter, because It won't take up space in the tank and can be turned down.
I'm just a bit worried about it being giant (I'll have to look at one in the shop unless someone can tell me the dimensions of one), being a bit too strong and being a pretty cheap filter, how well it runs.

I am also considering a sponge filter instead, but I'm worried it won't be able to handle the amount of waste produced by an axie. Also it will take up space in my tank, which is fairly small (I've been told it will be 'okay' as long as I'm pretty vigilant at keeping it clean and watching the water chemistry)

Does anyone have any advice on this?

I've used that same brand and type of filter, but years ago. From memory it worked well and it's adjustable. But the filter cartridges are sealed and have carbon sandwiched in them I believe which requires them being replaced in a month or so when the carbon becomes depleted.

I also find that HOB filter cartridges tend to clog up fast and there is only so many times you can rinse filter floss.

The only options you have really is a sponge filter, a HOB filter and a internal power filter. Sponge filters are great when cycled but you loose alot of the muck back into the water when you remove it for cleanining. As you do with a internal power filter if your unlucky.

As you said above seeing as space is at a premium, a HOB maybe the best option.

I currently use a Elite "hush" HOB on a smaller tank (not my axie tank) and it works fine. The pads are expensive, about $20 for a pack of 5.

Thanks C:
I'm having a tricky time actually finding filters in my area (seriously they only seem to stock air pumps)
Still feeling VERY tempted to go buy one of the tanks from a LFS that is closing down tomorrow just because then I get a nice big tank AND a good filter. I wonder if I can spin that to my mother.

I'm avoiding internal power filters because I know they add heat to the tank as well as taking up space.

Also I swear I deleted cycling from the title.
I figured it out about cycling.
