Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but I am setting up a 55gal tank for my axies soon and I was wondering what filter I should get to make sure there isnt too much water flow for my 4 axies. The tank dimensions are 48x12.5x21. I have an amazing canister filter that I wanted to use, but I think it might be too much water flow for the guys. I will look into GPH on the filter for you. What GPH should I be looking for to ensure not too much flow? Also, this comes with a spraybar or you could just leave it flow right into the water, I should opt for the spraybar, correct?

Thanks
Mark

I have a four foot tank with a canister filter and it works well for me! As long as you use the spray bar, turn the output down to the lowest (if it's adjustable) and if it's still a little too fast you can always buffer the flow with some rocks or bogwood etc. I use a spray bar that is about 3 foot long, this means there is just a trickle basically. I don't know what the output of mine is though, yours may be more powerful.

Mine is a Rena XP4 canister filter. Flow rate is 450GPH, the Water Flow is 190GPH. I dont know the difference between the two, but Im guessing the 190GPH is the output rate as it says (with filter media) beside the specification. Ive been told this would work amazingly to keep the tank clean, but Im still kind of worried about the water flow. I will use the spraybar for sure, though.

Thats a generous size filter for a 55 gallon tank and it would work very well at keeping your tank clean best way to tell about the current is to give it a go with a spray bar it should be fine.

Thanks. I will try it out for the cycle. Pics once I get the tank going.
