Hey guys, I just put my new axie in its tank and it's doing great! The only concern that I have is that the filter that came with my 10gal tank may be a little too strong for him. By strong I mean it seems like he might be getting moved around by the current of the filter. I already have the water filled up pretty high to make less of a splash. Anyone got any ideas?

Is it a hang on back filter? If so you can put like tall/big ornament under the water flow to disperse the current, or like a sponge kind of thing under it. Is there a setting you can change it from low/high?

It is a hang off the back. I don't think there's any sort of settings on there, it's pretty basic. The current isn't whipping him around horribly but I can see that it looks like he sometimes can't sit still like he's slowly being pushed across the floor of the tank. I'm wondering if the movement can be harmful.

Well since there's no setting, I suggest the sponge method or a really large ornament to disperse the water. You can also get some kind of shelving like perspex with suction cups on the side to do that as well so it'll hit a large flat surface and will run off gently..

It's not really "harmful", but can be very stressful for the axolotl. I guess it would kinda be like us on a very very windy day it'd be frustrating and annoying?

Long-term stress is harmful and can lead to illness in axolotls. They aren't fond of current in their water.

If your axie is still small, I recommend not using any filter at all.
