Filter media?

What kind of filter media do I need to have? Do I even need anything crazy in my filter, or is the cartridge thing it came with ok? I was at the pet store the other day and saw all kinds of stuff you can put in there. Some of it was supposed to help with the ammonia levels and such.

The cartridges aren't all that great- they're designed to be replaced, and degrade with time. You want media you can rinse and reuse forever! I really like a filter sponge and a bag of the ceramic media. That should give you plenty of surface area for your good bacteria.
