Filter Issue

Ok, well my axie isn't sick but I think this is the best place for this. I was gone today and my filter on my tank had been broken so I had my brother go pick one up. I told him what filter inserts to get. He got a carbon pad filter insert and the regular biobag thing that goes with the filter itself. Being that he isn't the smartest person and it was my fault for entrusting him, but he put the filter inserts in without washing them before hand. I came home and the tank was super foggy. I knew what he did so I took my axie out right away and put him into a small holding tank. He was not in the foggy tank for long. But, now I don't know what to do. It seems to be clearing up a bit (it's been filtering while he's in the holding tank for about 4 hours now). I also changed out about 30% of the water to get some of the dust particles from the insert out. What should I do? Should I just empty out the entire tank? Is the particles in the filter harmful to him?

The particulate can settle on their gills if it is fine enough and, while not toxic, will impede gas exchange. Keep the filter tunning with some filter floss in it. That should remove the particulate in a day or so.

Ok,thanks a lot. Should I just keep him in the holding tank for a day or so? It seems to be clearing up.

Grant, in response to your request from the other post - I have absolutely no experience with carbon filters, sorry. I would go with Brian on this one.

Ok thanks anyways Anne. I was just trying to figure it out cuz no one had posted yet.

Ok well thanks Brian. I put him back in the tank a few hours ago because it cleared up and he has been doing good and swimming around like normal. Thanks again.
