Well, as for buying a filter for an Axolotl, I need to know the max. amount of wattage it should have. Cause as you know, the more watts, the hotter(literally). And I saw a filter that was around 3-4watts, is that low?
If it's outside the tank (and it should be) then it really doesn't matter.
I like the Zoo Med 501.
If it's an internal then it's going to heat up the tank regardless. I have a Repticlear 350 as well and thankfully I can run it with 95% of the Powerhead out of the water.
As long as the filter is rated for the water quantity you have it'll be fine. You'll need to make sure that the water flow does not create unwanted currents. Some filters have a spraybar, others you'll need to plan how to minimize currents.
