How can I tell if the water flow from my filter is too strong for my axie?? I have a new filter, Elite Stingray 5, in a 3ft tank.

Never really thought about that...you may tell if the plants are moving (..fast - especially on the ground), if the gills of your axie move by the waterflow, if it is crouching in one special corner of the tank and if it shows any signs of stress (have a look at caudata.org for these signs).

If you can not restrict the outflow of the filter at the filter itself you should direct it towards a corner/side or use some kind of divider, f.i. a tube with some holes driven into it. You could even place some foam at the outlet to slow down the water flow.

Thanks for that, I can see the plants moving but I wouldn't think it was anything too much lol, they are only moving ever so slightly.

Hi Carley,

You can buy water dispersers that spread the water flow across the top of the tank water rather than down into it or you could use our famous kiwi ingenuity and design something that can be made around the house.

If your axies gills start to point markedly forward or the tip of their tail starts to curl these ar e two signs that your water flow may be to much.

Good Luck

Thanks Click, I have been keeping an eye on them and their gills are looking 'normal' and my bigger girl has been playing a lot today so I assume shes liking it in her home :) I really appreciate the help in here.
