Depends on what sort of filter you mean.
e.g. I have Fluval U3 in my 4ft tanks, but wouldn't dream of using something like that in a hatchling tank, in case they somehow got inside (either on purpose or by accident)
However, sponge filters (that run off air pumps) are perfect for hatchling tanks!
