I am setting up my 20 gallon long aquarium and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the Tetra Whisper 20i filter? I was wondering if this one has low current for the little axolotl I will be getting or if there is a filter that people would recommend?

I used to use that filter. I changed model for one that took up less space in the tank, but it's a good filter. Quiet, and as long as the water level is high, the current isn't too bad.

If you want to lessen the current, you can aim it's flow to the top of a cave or something so that the axolotl can sit under it without being buffeted by the current.

Also, something that I've noticed which has helped with the current in my tanks, try putting the filter on the side of the tank instead of the back. This gives the current more room to spread out instead of immediately bouncing off the opposite wall and creating for ripples. I started doing it about a year ago and I've really seen a difference.

Hope this helps :)

Awesome thanks! Does anyone maybe have a suggestion of a better filter for a 20 long that has less current?

Filters with a spray bar create less flow and you can direct them at the tank wall to diffuse it.
I personally just use my LFS home brand internal filter and ive not had any problems yet, and it was a lot cheaper, but im in the uk.
This is mine, basic but does the job;
